You will notice all the handbooks refer to is the 'brand' Sirrom - which was blended by Duckhams for Morris - the engine oil would have been a monograde 30sae. Since then oils have improved no end but the diversity is even greater - if you know the condition of your engine - had it been rebuilt before storage/how well was it stored - with new or old oil in the sump etc etc I would suggest you use either a 15/40 'classic' oil (Millers, Morris, Castrol, Penrite - depending on local availability and the depth of your pockets!) - if you suspect it is 'worn' then a 20/50 would be better and is less likely to 'escape' being more viscous. Personally I use Millers XML 20/50 in my 1935/6 New Fourteen which had the engine rebuilt twelve years ago.
The gearbox should be an 80 grade but 90 or a 85/90 will do - NOT an EP - again I use Green Gear 90 from Millers, the diff also requires a NON EP grade - 140 which is rather thick but it does thin out when it gets warm - I use Green Gear 140 from Millers.

1934 Nine - Help Required
I submitted my application form early last week, which I trust you have received. I am however in desperate need of advice as to which oils to use for the engine, gearbox and back axle of a 1934 Nine. It is being MOT'd on Friday and this will be it's longest (and only) journey since 1975.
Many Thanks

In the hope of eliciting an early response to my request for information viz correct oils for engine, gearbox, back axle and steering box I attach a couple of photos of my 1934 nine as it was pulled from its slumber four weeks ago. It was put into the garage in 1975. Also is one photo of it after a bit of polish and cleaning. The photos do flatter it a bit!

6/99 - Police Car
Yes the Met. used the Wolseley 6/99 before the appearance of the 6/110 in 1961, they even entered a 6/99 in the 1960 Monte Carlo rally car reg. no 384 FJO. The driver and co - driver were both based at the Hendon Driving School.

After a 10 years halt, I am now restarting the restauration of my 6/110 MkII. I will certainly need spares in the future, and here is what I need at this point:

Police 6/99 and 6/110
A contact has asked me a question I have no answer to! Basically, did the Met Police have any 6/99 cars before the 6/110? By 1961 and ON THE BEAT they must have still been using 6/90 cars I would imagine.
I can only really remember the 6/110s from childhood days!

12h.p. Coupe - Help required
Hi there Mr Noticeboard, I'm dealing with Peter Richardson's 1936 12 hp coupe. Repainting it as close to original as possible as the previous colour was not quite right. However we struck a problem with the oil filter for it. probably a Tecalmit 1804 or 1805. We cannot find another one for love nor money although we have been informed of an adapter to fit a more universal oil filter. Any help to find something original would be a great help. Also a 12/48 coupe or sedan manual.

Wolseley Nine
Dear Mr. Noticeboard.
I have recently purchased a 1933 Wolseley 9 reg no. ANB 583 body no. 131662. chassis no.1662/112. Last known owners Andrew Boss since Feb 96 and Hamilton White, sept 87 to feb 96. does anyone know any more?
I was told of it's interesting history by the last owner. Apparently it was converted into a pick-up during the war because one could get rationed petrol as it's registered as a commercial vehicle/pick-up.
The car is very rough and much of the body has rotted away,so there is no harm in my plan to build a war time themed pick-up with the remains. My plans are to make it look like it was built for the war department, drab olive in colour, standard wheels, canvas seats, etc. I have to fabricate a new pick-up bed in steel or wooden stake bed style, as nothing is left now of the old one. I will use a Ford pinto engine, 5 speed g/box and 105E axle with RS2000 diff. This will enable it to cruise at a steady 70, and have lots of enjoyment from this charming little car.
I have the original engine and gearbox No.1778 112A 1096cc? prop and rear axle available if anyone would like it. I would really like to trade it for some more body parts, doors, shell, left overs from restorations etc. Condition of the parts is not too important as I'm looking for the old patina style, and have to fabricate the rear of the cab too, coachbuilt as much as possible to look original. what's out there? Please help.
I would love to learn more about the Wonderful Wolseley's and hear anyone's thoughts about this interesting pick-up 'model'.
I can't stress enough that this car was saved from certain death in the jaws of the crusher and not a wonderful restorable classic which like yourselves, I also love to see.
I hope to join the register and when the little truck is finished come along to some shows.
Best regards

1500 Gearbox
hi, I have a gold seal gearbox for a wolseley 1500, it has'nt been used since it was reconditioned to gold seal condition and bought by my father many years ago (it still has a label attached to it). He always intended to fit it to his wolseley 1500 but never got around to it. I would like £100 for it.

1930s Wooden Body Frames
Do you know what company made a car in the early 1930's with wooden doors? I saw a photo on-line months ago of such a car (black chassis, beautiful wooden front and back doors) and now can't relocate it. I am a published book author and mention this car in the book I am presently writing. The year is 1933 in the story but the car could be anywhere from 1930 to 1934. The family that owns it is a very wealthy Texas rancher family. Info would be helpful; a photo even better. It should be a 4-seater, so that there are "back seats" and "front seats". (An important plot point!) Many, many thanks!

Re: "Restoring a Nine"
First, if you are not already a member, join the Wolseley Register! We can help in lots of ways: helping you to recover the original registration number from the DVLA; looking at the history; copies of parts manuals and handbook; possibly some spares; and, most important of all, linking you to people who know the Nine well and who have restored their own cars.
Once you have the registration number, engine number and chassis number, please e-mail and I'll start the research.

It has only had one owner from new which was the current owners uncle and the tax ran out in 1963 which is when it was parked up, I do have the reg number but dont know where to go from here any help sourcing parts would be very much appreciated as well.
Hope you can help. Many thanks.

14/60 Experience
Hi, just wondered if anyone has had any experience towing with a 14h.p. Series car? I have a small caravan that I tow with a '63 Rover 110 P4, but I am giving serious thought to selling the Rover to finance Wolseley work and new boilers and things. I have heard of a few people "don't do it!" but no one has any actual experience? If the concerns are things are overheating Etc., these things can be overcome, but I don't want to do serious mehanical damage to the car if they have a known track record of not being up to the job. The car in question is a '47 14/60.
Thanks,
